Rivers state Governor Chibuike Amaechi has called on the Muslim faithful in the state to remember the needy as part of the Islamic teaching, during Eid-El-Kabir celebration, yesterday.
Governor Amaechi stated this in a message of facilitation with Muslim faithful in the state, through his press secretary, David Oyofor. He urged adherents of Islamic faith to imbibe the teachings of the Holy Quran and remember to pray for the peace of the country in the spirit of the celebration.
As early as 7:30 am, a large crowd of Muslim worshipers, led by their clerics, gathered for Idil, at the popular ground, along Npkolu in Port Harcourt to offer prayer for the country. However, after the traditional two Raquat prayers, the chief Imam led other worshipers in a symbolic slaughter of ram. This set the tone for celebration of the day by Muslims, as many turned up in colourful traditional attires to appreciate God for another celebration.
In recognition of importance of the celebration, the federal government had announced Monday and Tuesday as public holidays nationwide to allow Muslims celebrate with loved ones.
