Police in Delta State at the weekend said their men in Warri killed one armed robber after the car in which some bandits operated crashed in a multiple accident and demobilised the robbers.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Celestina Kalu, said the N2.1m cash that the robbers had just snatched from a resident and were escaping with was also recovered.
She said, “One Ephraim Iyamukre in Nigercat area Effurun, Warri, went to a bank along Okumagba Avenue, Warri, and withdrew N2.1m. Moreover, while he was driving home, along NNPC Complex road, a gang of four armed robbers operating with a Toyota Camry car with number plate EW 16 LND, robbed him of the said money on gunpoint.
“However, the victim courageously trailed the hoodlums with his car to Ogunu road, Warri, close to Quick Response Service office Warri, where there was a multiple accidents involving the hoodlums’ vehicle.
“Consequently, the armed robbers jumped out of their vehicle and ran in different directions. On discovering what happened, operatives of QRS, Warri, led by ASP Okey Nweke, gave the armed robbers a hot chase and engaged them in a gun duel. In the process, one of the criminals was gunned down.”
Kalu said items recovered from the hoodlums included one G3 rifle No. G310E393 with 19 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition; the sum of N2.1m earlier snatched from their victim; and one Nokia handset.
