PDP caucus from Enugu West senatorial district including the five serving council chairmen within the zone yesterday reinstated their support for Governor Chime to vie for the senatorial seat of the district, presently occupied by the deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

The meeting, which was held at Liberty Centre Enugu, supersedes their initial meeting within the week on same issue, held at Awgu Local Government Area headquarters, which ended violently.

They described speculations making the round in the state that Governor Chime was no longer interested in the race as false and misleading.

They attributed such rumours to be the handiwork of loyalists of the deputy Senate President, who are fronting for his re-election and endorsed Governor Chime as the next senator of Enugu West zone in 2015.

The motion for adoption of Governor Chime as the next senator designate of Enugu West senatorial district was moved by Hon Mathanus Nze, the serving council chairman of Awgu local government, seconded by the member representing Oji River Constituency in Enugu state House of Assembly, Hon. Donatus Uzogbado.

The motion reads, “I Mathanus Nze, Chairman of Awgu Local Government Council of Enugu State, having seen what Sullivan Iheanacho Chime has done for Enugu State and knowing what he is capable of doing for us in future, wish to move that Enugu West PDP stakeholders adopt and approve and ask our Governor … to go and vie for the senatorial seat of our district in 2015.”

They also dismissed reports allegedly being circulated by the same camp claiming that the Chairman of the Awgu Local Government Council, Mr. Mathanus Nze was impeached.
