A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship aspirant in Delta state, Senator Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa yesterday vehemently debunked allegations that he is sponsoring a killer squad in the state.

Fielding questions from newsmen at the PDP national secretariat after submitting his nomination forms, Senator Okowa said the allegation is a smear campaign which emanated from his political opponents who are intimidated by his profile and popularity in Delta state.

“It is very unfortunate that some people believe in smear campaign, if you come to Delta state and ask about me, God knows that I have a history that people can confirm.

“I have been in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I also served at the state and local council level and they know the kind of person I am but some people are not happy with the growth of others and so they look for ways to carry out smear campaign, it is very unfortunate because that is not Okowa. Okowa is a man far from those things they described.

“Possibly, if you look at the history of those doing this, you can directly link them to violence. I am not given to violence and I will never be given to violence but that process is on, and the man who did that campaign was paid N500, 000 to do that. He is already in court with my lawyers, so, I would rather allow the judicial process to take care of that because some people just receive money and make careless statement. I would not like to speak more on it in order not to get involved with court issues.

Responding to question on the conduct of delegates primaries last weekend in Delta, Okowa commended the national leadership of PDP for sending a credible team to the state and appealed to them to ensure that the list of elected delegates are not tampered with before the governorship primaries.
