All Progressives Congress, APC, Rivers State chapter has announced the zoning of its governorship position to the South East senatorial district of the state.

The disclosure was made by the state APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya at the party secretariat in GRA Port Harcourt, recently, explaining that the senatorial district comprises the upland and riverine communities of the state.

By this permutation, the party chieftain stressed that the APC gubernatorial candidate could emerge from either the upland or the riverine area of the state, classifying the Ogonis as the upland people while the Kalabaris, Opobians, Igbanis from Bonny and the Andonis from the riverine are all in the South East senatorial district.

Dr. Ikanya assured that the candidate will be determined only after the vote by the party, adding that whoever emerged will be supported by all members of the party.

The APC chairman refuted alleged claims by the immediate past Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike and the Rivers State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Felix Obuah, that some founding members of the PDP, including the aggrieved group of 16 governorship candidates said to have formed a coalition against Wike’s quest to succeed Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi were moles planted, just to work for the   interest of the APC, while still in the APC circle.

However, a source who preferred anonymity told Nigerian Pilot that the two front runners for the APC governorship ticket from the South East senatorial district may likely be Senator Magnus Abe and Hon. Dakuku Peterside.  Sen. Abe, who is from Bera in Gokana local government area represents the upland, while Hon. Peterside who is from Opobo Town in Opobo/Nkoro local government area, stands for the  riverine community.

Senator Abe is currently representing the South East in the Senate while Peterside is currently representing Andoni /Opobo/Nkoro/ federal constituency in the House of Representatives.
