In a bid to end insurgency in Northern Nigeria, a non-governmental organisation, Al-Mustapha Peace, Unity and Development Initiative has developed five strategic plans of action to achieve peace in the region.

The modules focus on building a sustainable environment for man, peace education, indigenous conflict resolution mechanisms, demilitarisation and re-socialisation of the conflicting parties.

At the launch of the programme manual yesterday, the Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau said, “One critical challenge facing Nigeria is conflicts and crisis mutation.”

The Minister said “This training manual will make Nigerians begin to see the issue of conflict and conflict resolution as a collective venture for the common good of the nation.”

Earlier in his speech, the President of the group, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha said “When the state of a nation is blessed with the atmosphere of peace and harmony the sky will be the limit in terms of quality and quantity of production in the country.”

He said that the “essence of the modules is to heal, protect, prevent and provide ideas, guides and relevant skills that are required to intervene, resolve and manage conflict for peace, unity and development in Nigeria.”

Al-Mustapha said the critical challenge mankind is faced with in the contemporary world is peace, adding that absence of which results in different forms of conflicts, crises and mutations.

He noted that to fight this forms of conflicts, every effort and activity must be geared towards peace building for society to be a better place for human existence.

Responding, the Director training and research for the group Prof Danladi Atu said during conflicts, the combatant firework completely change the behavioral action of parties involved particularly the youths.

“For instance, the culture of hatred, hostility, violence, addiction to drugs, alcoholism, fanaticism of faith and the arbitral use of arms at the slightest provocation became part of their social norm”, he explained.
