A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has advised the embattled Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to be honourable enough to resign his position, as he is no more a member of the majority party.
Issuing the advice yesterday in Port Harcourt was one of the governorship aspirants and a two term Majority Leader in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon (Dr) Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja, in reaction to the defection of Alhaji Tambuwl, noting that, “much as the Speaker has the right to decamp to the All Progressives Congress, APC, he should be courageous to drop the Speakership”, which according to him is the property of the party.
On governor Amaechi’s persistent attacks on the presidency, he regretted that, rather than concentrating on the development of the state, governor Amaechi has rather resorted to hostilities and unwarranted attacks on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He observed that if it were the regime of one of Nigeria’s past presidents, Amaechi would have been an ex- governor by now, noting that President Jonathan is peaceful, calm, tolerant but calculative.
Dr Gogo Jaja, who spent 12 years in the legislature, eight as a House Leader and four as Chief Whip, also lauded what he described as the president’s application of maturity in handling governor Amaechi’s attacks, saying the actions meant a whole lot of embarrassment to the state and entire region. “The office of the President is a revered position, and those who try to desecrate it cannot smell it”, he said.
On the chances of the president in the forthcoming presidential election, he noted that President Jonathan is the best the country has ever produced since independence, and called on the people of the state and the entire region to accept the responsibility of delivering him as a duty for all.
