Proposed granting of autonomy to local government by national assembly has been identified as means of creating crisis at grassroot administration.
The Executive Secretary, Ede North local government area of Osun State, Dr. Tiamiyu Bello who stated this in a chat with Journalists in Ede town said the step would give room for corruption and maladministration in the local government level.
Bello who canvassed for restructuring of local government administration, hinted that local government should not be given total autonomy to avert bad governance at local government level.
While noting that local government was key to grassroot development hence the need for state government to serve as control institution for local government administration, charged national assembly to rescind its decision on the matter.
He said local government was established to complement state government’s efforts in fast racking development in rural areas, saying local government remains major agent for state’s developmental agenda.
While condemning the action of Inspector General Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba for withdrawing the security details of Speaker of House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, the local government administration said the action was illegal and unconstitutional.
The Ede North Council boss hinted that it was aberration of law for the PDP to plot the removal of the Speaker due to his defection to APC, saying the office of Speaker was opened for any member of the House of Representatives.
He urged PDP to stop politics of bitterness by playing politics with decorum to avert political crisis in the country noting that politics was key to national growth.
