Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara State yesterday said that it had not anointed any of the 12 aspirants jostling for the party’s governorship ticket, stressing that “there is no zoning in our party.”
The party’s state chairman, Mr. Iyiola Akogun stated this in Ilorin yesterday shortly after the executive council meeting held at the PDP secretariat on Asa Dam Road.
He noted that there was no iota of truth in the claims that the party’s delegates lists had been manipulated as widely reported in the media, adding that all the lists had been sent from the PDP national secretariat and had carefully been assessed by the entire executive members and well local government chairmen, and were confirmed authentic.
Akogun further stressed that although the just concluded delegates congress witnessed some solvable disagreements in some areas, but it recorded high success in 15 local government areas except Ilorin West where result is still pending.
He also debunked the rumour that the party had zoned the gubernatorial ticket to a particular section of the state, maintaining that “our governorship candidate can come from anywhere. We don’t have anointed candidate and we are not party to any act capable of causing chaos within the party.”
The PDP chieftain, however, urged all aspirants to continue with their consultations and parley with delegates ahead of the party’s primaries, which will commence on Saturday November 29 2014.
