Hon. Adoga Onah, representing Oju 1 State Constituency in Benue State House of Assembly has said that he is the only candidate of the people in the coming election.
Hon. Onah who is seeking re-election for a second tenure said beyond his political party-Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, he believed more in the people who will cast their votes for him.
The lawmaker noted that it was more important to be candidate of the people than any political party or government, as according to him, it was whoever the people wanted that will succeed in elections, even at the primaries.
He said: “I believe that I am a candidate of the people. I have ever been a man of the people, that’s why my election in 2011 was a revolution, the first of its kind in Igede land.
Since I came into the parliament, I have not acquired a single plot of land. I feel that posterity will not forgive me if I do such a thing when people were ready and willing to lay down their lives for my sake. So the little fund that I accessed, I ploughed it back into my constituency. That’s why today, I’m still a tenant in Makurdi not because I don’t have money to build a house but I see it as an offence. I feel happier to give the money back to the people who elected me.”
The medical doctor cum politician who is a frontline contender for the PDP primaries in Oju I state constituency also asserted that if his constituents could vote him in from the opposition party in 2011, they would be more willing to do so now that he had returned to the ruling PDP.
“If anybody had a reservation in 2011 because I was in the opposition party, now that I’m back in the ruling PDP, they should be very willing to support me the more. And I won’t disappoint them because the ruling party will provide more opportunities,” he submitted.
Hon Onah urged the delegates in the coming party primary to cast their votes rightly for him, saying that his return to the parliament would offer them the opportunity to bargain in the political equation in the state and become more relevant.
