Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ughelli Correspondent Chapel, has condemned the shooting of Matthias Ogbagah, publisher of The Rainbow Newspaper by suspected assassins.
Ogbagah, was shoot on Wednesday night by suspected assassins, who were allegedly paid by someone to kill him.
The union in a release issues yesterday by its chairman, Festus Ahon and Sunday Apah, Secretary, called on the security agencies within Ughelli and its environs to come to their aide by putting a stop to the incessant attack on journalists.
The statement reads, “It could be recalled that on the 15th of November, 2014, armed men spent about 4 hours to break into Comrade Matthias Ogbagah’s Ughelli residence in the night and used machete on him to the point of death. They only left because they believed he was dead.”
It continued “Again, unidentified gunmen numbering over seven stormed his residence at Ogodo Street between the hours of 8 and 9pm on December 31st and shot at him at close range. He was left alone in the pool of his blood, thinking he was dead.”
The union lamented the ugly incident and wondered why anybody would want Ogbagah dead.
