PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: JONATHAN’S MEN HIT THE ROAD FOR FEBRUARY 14

Following the approval of the
composition of members into various
committees for the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP, Presidential Campaign
Organisation, PCO, members of the
committee have already commenced
work nationwide to deliver President
Goodluck Jonathan on February 14.
Though President Jonathan
will officially inaugurate the PCO
tomorrow at Legacy House, Abuja,
Nigerian Pilot Sunday gathered that
members of the committee have
commenced mass mobilisation of the
electorates in various sectors to market
the PDP candidate.
To ensure the PCO achieved its
objective, the organisation is made
up of the headquarters, which has Dr
Ahmadu Ali as the Director General
with 12 directorates headed by a
director and nine committees.
The directorates are Admin and
Finance; Contact and Mobilisation;
Finance; Planning, Research and
Strategy; Media and Publicity;
Security and Intelligence; and Youth
Mobilisation.
Others are Civil Society and Support
Groups; Women Mobilisation; office of
the Auditor; office of the Legal Adviser
and office of ICT.
The nine committees are: Admin/
Logistics; Contact and Mobilisation;
Finance; Planning, Research and
Strategy; Media and Publicity; Security
and Intelligence; Youth Mobilisation,
Civil Society and Support Groups and
Women Mobilisation.
All the committees are headed by a
chairman.
Already, Vice President Namadi
Sambo has been reaching out to those
that were aggrieved over the outcome
of the primaries of the party in various
states and the move is already yielding
positive result as most of the aspirants
that hitherto vowed to work against
the party have accepted the olive
branch from the presidency.
A cursory look at the membership
of the PDP Presidential Campaign
Organisation shows that the
committees are made up of eminent
Nigerians that have made their mark
in various sectors.
The Presidency went beyond the PDP
membership register to accommodate
some non card carrying members
of the party, who are supporters of
President Jonathan in the campaign
organisation. Chairman of the Board of trustees of
the PDP, Tony Anenih, was appointed
the national campaign adviser while a
former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-
Kayode, is the Director of Media and
Publicity, with former Information
Minister, Jerry Gana, heading the
campaign’s contact and mobilisation
unit and former chief of staff to the
president, Chief Mike Ogiadomhe as
member.
Gana, who is known to have friends
in practically every state of the
federation, is expected to use his wide
acceptability and contacts nationwide
to draw support for President
Jonathan’s candidature.
The media and publicity committee is
headed by the PDP National Publicity
Secretary, Olisa Metuh. His choice for
the committee is said to have been
informed by his performance in office.
Metuh has kept PDP very visible in the
media since he assumed office and has
taken PDP publicity to the next level
on the social media.
Media veteran and former Director
General of the Nigerian Television
Authority, Dr Tony Iredia is to assist
Olisa Metuh as the Deputy Chairman
of the committee.
Also in the media committee
is the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief
of the Nigerian Pilot newspapers
and Newsworld Magazine, Prince
Dennis Sami. Prince Sami made
the presidential list because of his
influence among his colleagues in the
media, where he is held in high esteem.
A trained professional journalist,
Prince Sami is sitting atop the fastest
growing newspaper in the country
and the newspaper publishes
simultaneously in Abuja, Lagos and
Port Harcourt.
From the South West, a former
minister, Tunde Adeniran, will serve
as deputy director general of the
campaign’s head office, while the duo
of Special Duties Minister, Kabiru
Turaki and ex-Anambra governor,

committee. Some other members
of the committee are Dr Abubakar
Suleiman; strongman of Nassarawa
politics, Senator Solomon Ewuga,
former ministers Emeka Wogu, Idris
Waziri and Damishi Sango.
Former Ogun state governor,
Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former
deputy speaker of the House of
Representatives, Austin Opara,

Modibo as secretary.
