The vice chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Katsina state, Hon. Abdulkadir Nasir has described as unfortunate the incessant clashes between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party and those of the All Progressives Congress, across the country.
Hon Nasir said the clashes were undemocratic, unnecessary and a gross negation of the tenets of democracy. The APC Katsina vice chairman stated this in Gusau, the Zamfara state capital in a chat with the journalists.
He challenged political parties in the country to take urgent measures and dealt with any of their aspirants and supporters who try to cause havoc during electioneering campaign.
He further appealed to political parties and their aspirants as well as supporters to shun any act or illegal mobilizations capable of breaching law and order and spreading violence in the country.
He stated that the incessant political clashes between the supporters of APC and PDP in some states in the federation might likely sabotage the efforts of INEC to conduct the general elections. He cautioned that politicians are not supposed to sponsor youths to cause havoc or take politics as do or die affair during the conduct of their electioneering campaign rallies, elections and beyond.
“We must learn from developed nations like United States of America and a host of other countries on how they were practicing their democracy peacefully and gently instead of causing violence, which may usually lead to the loss of our people during any political era in this country.”
On the shifting of the elections by INEC, he described the postponement as a welcome development, adding that, it will give all the illegible voters across the country ample opportunity to go and collect their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of next month polls.
