Plateau Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, yesterday said it has built 98 PHCs and targeted more than 20, 000 people to benefit from its on-going free medical outreach in the state.
Peter Nyam-Gai, Plateau MDGs Project Coordinator, made the pronouncement to our Correspondent at Nyelleng, Pankshin Local Government, during a free medical service in the area.
The project coordinator said already 8, 433 persons have been enjoyed the medical services being offered by the MDGs in 10 of the 17 LGAs of Plateau.
“Between 2011 and 2014, we have built 98 PHCs and have offered free medical services to a total of 8, 433 in just 10 local governments from my record as of today.
“Hopefully before March 20, 2015 it is our intention to cover all the 17 local governments; I can assure you that by the time we are through, we might have covered well over 20, 000 people in the state, “ he assured.
Nyam-Gai said “we feel very much fulfilled that we are at least giving back to the people as a government; and this is the essence of government. “
According to him, government was supposed to be responsible to the yearnings and aspirations of the people and meet the people at their point of needs.
He said that after this intervention in the 17 LGAs, “we shall take the medical service to the next level where we shall begin to conduct surgeries on patients more so that we purposely bought an Ambulance for this purpose. “
Nyam-Gai also disclosed that the intervention was not in the health sector alone but that MDGs have been able to construct 130 primary schools across Plateau.
“We have intervened in 13 of the 17 LGAs in Plateau with last year alone about 68 schools were constructed and we hope to reach out to the other four councils, Mangu, Shendam, Wase and Jos North, “ he said.
