Refers government has commended the military forces for their bravery and victory of an enemy of state, Boko Haram terror group.
The FG also commended the electorate for huge turn out during the Presidential and National Assembly polls last Saturday, stressing that the high turnout is victory for democracy.
Coordinating spokesman for the National Information Centre, NIC, Mr. Mike Omeri, in a statement yesterday said the record high voter turnout, especially in areas that were previously under Boko Haram threat or control, like Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, is a clear result of the Nigerian military’s successes in securing our country and the Nigerian people’s faith in this government to provide both safe and democratic election.
Omeri said the strikingly long lines of voters who turned out to cast their ballots in Maiduguri is a testament to the atmosphere of security and sense of safety that this government has delivered to the people.
He said now that the Presidential and National Assembly elections are over, the duty of all Nigerians is to maintain the peace and ensure continued cooperation with security forces.
The NOA boss said: “We believe that this will go a long a way to prove to the world that Nigeria is stable where democracy works. NIC has noted the high voter turnout, the dedication and patience of Nigerian voters and believes that in itself, is a triumph of Nigerian democracy.
“Our military and security agencies’ commitment and brave service has made this election possible, and giving our soldiers more time to make the necessary headway against Boko Haram has ensured that Nigerians in the conflict areas participate in the election.
