Oba Akiolu: We’re taking appropriate actions -DSS

As criticisms continue to trail the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu’s threat to Igbo in the state to either vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC’s gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, or be ready to be drowned in the Lagoon, the Department of State Services, DSS, has said it is taking appropriate actions on the matter.
The agency’s Deputy Director, Public Relations, Ms Marilyn Ogar, dropped hint of its action in Abuja yesterday at the weekly security press briefing of the National Information Centre, NIC, when she was asked on the step the DSS had taken on the Oba’s threat.
Although Ogar did not explain further on how the DSS would go about the investigation, she simply stated: “We are taking appropriate action. Yesterday, the service had once again, warned all Nigerians not to fan the embers of discord within the country. If the presidential election had come and gone successfully, we wouldn’t want people to begin to whip up sentiments unnecessarily. So we are handling it” Ogar said.
Nigerian Pilot recalls that the DSS had on Tuesday warned against inciting and unguarded statements by some Nigerians.
In a statement, Ogar urged Nigerians to instead strive towards deepening democracy in the country.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has reassured Nigerians, especially those living in communities affected by recent attacks Boko Haram sect that the military and security forces that it was ready to protect them during Saturday’s Governorship and Houses of Assembly elections.
Coordinating spokesman of the NIC, Mr. Mike Omeri, who briefed newsmen on security update in the North-East region, he commended the military and security agencies for ensuring peace and safety which guaranteed the smooth conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections on March 28.
Omeri stated that a testament to the successful conduct of this year’s elections is the rebound in the capital market, especially in the foreign exchange market.
He said: “We congratulate all Nigerians on the successful conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections that were held on March 28, 2015. We commend, especially, the military and security agencies for ensuring an atmosphere of peace and safety that guaranteed the smooth conduct of the elections not only throughout Nigeria, but also and especially the North-Eastern states. A testament to the successful conduct of these elections is the rebound in the capital market and especially in the foreign exchange market. We also wish to use this platform to remind Nigerians of the imperative of their participation in the next leg of the general elections scheduled to hold on April 11, 2015.”
Omeri, who is also the director-general of NOA, said troops recapture of Alagarno in Borno State from the insurgents and their equipment such as armoured vehicles, arms and ammunition was another manifestation of the relentless effort of the military and those of the regional military cooperation at permanently checking the spread of Boko Haram insurgency in the sub-region.
