Ahead of the May 29 terminal date for his administration, President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday paid a private visit to former Defence Minister, Gen Theophilus Danjuma, in his residence in Abuja.
After the meeting, which was held behind closed-doors, Danjuma thanked Jonathan for the visit and hailed him for the way he handled the aftermath of the March 28 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Before the presidential poll, Danjuma had on his return from a London trip visited President Jonathan at the State House in Abuja, where he declared that he was not endorsing any of the presidential candidates for the just-concluded election.
Danjuma said yesterday that President Jonathan’s decision to concede defeat to Buhari had set an unmatched record in the history of the country’s democracy.
“President Jonathan has set a history, a record and something to be emulated by Africa and indeed the whole world. It’s an excellent thing he did,” Danjuma said.
Jonathan thanked the former minister for his fatherly support during the election.
Since he conceded defeat to Buhari, President Jonathan has been having private consultations with prominent Nigerians in preparation for the May 29 handover ceremony.
The President had met with President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, at the State House last Friday.
