Irate youths suspected to be supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom State yesterday took to the streets to protest the governorship election results.
According to the results already announced, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel recorded a landslide victory in results released by the state collation officer and vice chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor James Ekpoki.
The PDP candidate won in all the local governments with the exception of Urue Offong/Uruko where APC led with 3,792 votes as against PDP’s 2,777 out of a total of 7,128 votes cast.
The protesters numbering about 5, 000 blocked the entrance to INEC office in Uyo chanting war songs and displaying placards with various inscriptions such as ‘Stop killing Our People in the Name of Elections,’ etc.
Smokes were seen oozing from their gatherings on Oron Road while policemen barred them from approaching the INEC office, where they were alleged to have concluded plans to burn down.
Our correspondent reports that there was no loss of lives as the youths were repelled by a combined team of the military, police and SSS.
