Ebonyi LP to challenge polls results in court

Ebonyi state chapter of Labour Party, LP, has disclosed its intention to challenge in court the outcome of the National Assembly, Governorship, and House of Assembly elections held in the state on ground of rigging, falsification and high scale killings that trailed the exercise.
This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen yesterday and signed by the state chairman of the party, Comrade Sebastian Obiya where the party stated that it had reviewed all that went on during the elections and came to the conclusion that as a law abiding political party, it would challenge the outcome of the elections in court.
“We have reviewed all that went on during the shambolic elections and come to the conclusion that we, as a law abiding political party focused on probity and credible election, must challenge the outcome of the March 28 and April 11, 2015 elections in court,” the party said.
The LP alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP had boasted that all that they wanted was to be declared winner so that they could deploy their financial might on the system, adding that they are equally aware the party could bribe judges, noting that such would however not deter them from seeking redress in court.
“In taking this stand, we are aware of the false attempt at fence mending by the architects of the electoral fraud. People have boasted that all they want was to be named winner so that they could deploy their financial might on the system. We know bribes are being given, we know it is also possible for the PDP to bribe judges as they usually do, but we must approach the temple of justice to seek redress.”
LP stated that, alongside the All Progressives Congress, APC, and All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, it had while the fictitious results of the election were being announced, sent a petition to INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega and the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, calling for cancellation of the elections but the commission went ahead to announce the results of the election.
