Media workers task Buhari on Sardauna’s legacies

Workers of the New Nigerian Newspaper, NNN yesterday appealed to the newly elected political office holders in Northern Nigeria to as a matter of priority synergise with a view to reviving all comatose companies and legacies of the late Premier of the North and Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
In a statement signed by the NNN NUJ Chapel Chairman, Comrade Amos Mathew, the workers said the election of the leaders heralds a new era in the region and the country as the wind of change has actually come to stay because the organisation, NNN, suffered in the hands of the outgoing leaders in the North, headed by the Governor of Niger State, Aliyu Babangida.
According to the statement, “New Nigerian Newspapers, NNN workers who have been on strike for over two years now due to nonpayment of salaries and other entitlements, congratulate the nineteen newly elected and re-elected northern state Governors for your hard won success at the just concluded polls.
“Your election is a proof of the confidence and expectations the majority of the people of our region and your various states have in you to take them from their present state of affairs to better height.
“By your election, we want to remind you that you are all individually stepping into the shoes of our great founding father and the only Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna Sokoto.
“Your election heralds a new era in the region and the country as the wind of change has actually come to stay because the organisation, NNN, suffered in the hands of the outgoing leaders in the North, headed by Niger State Governor, Aliyu Babangida.
“Since Governor Aliyu Babangida took over the leadership of Northern States Governors Forum, NSGF for many years he has never visited NNN to see things for himself despite his frequent visit to Kaduna. God has answered our prayers for this change we have now from top to governorship in the North.
“We also want to use this auspicious moment to remind the incoming new northern governors that the New Nigerian Newspapers, NNN would be 60 years old by January 1st, 2016 and also the death of the Sardauna but the company has been closed now for over two years, while over fifteen of our colleagues have lost their lives due to ill health as a result of lack of money.’’
