A group, Door2Door for Mark2015, a campaign group in support of the Senate President, David Mark has frowned at comments which according to them constitute verbal attack on the person of the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Addressing newsmen yesterday in his office, the National Coordinator of the group, Comrade James Oche said the interpretation of the visit of the Senate President to the President –Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari was unfortunate.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Sen. David Mark visited President- Elect, Gen Mohammed Buhari on Thursday, 23rd April, 2015 about 2pm on the invitation of the latter as a senior citizen of Nigeria.
“Of course there was exchange of banters and issues of national concern were discussed by the two leaders, which was not for public consumption”, Comrade Oche stated.
He questioned the rationale for anyone to disparage the Senate President for honouring an invitation extended to him by the country’s newly elected President and called on those making uncomplimentary comments on the Senate leader to apply caution, especially at this time that every responsible citizen should play a role in restoring and stabilising the nation.
“By all standards, Senator David Mark has made remarkable contributions to the peace and stability that this country has enjoyed from the Sixth all through to the present Seventh Republic. There is no doubt that so many Nigerians have something good to say about the leadership style of Senator Mark.
“Even in his constituency, his landmark achievements are enough evidence that he deserves to further represent his people of Benue South. I am therefore appealing to all Nigerians to be constructive in their criticism, especially when the issues involved are sensitive”, he cautioned.
