No plans by Ambode to delay LG polls‏ – APC

The Lagos State Chapter of the APC has debunked allegations by the PDP that the governor-elect, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, has plans to delay local council polls until after a year in office.

The APC Publicity Secretary, Mr Joe Igbokwe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that the polls would be conducted at the scheduled time.

NAN reports that the Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Mr Taofik Gani, on Wednesday in a statement alleged that Ambode was planning to delay the yet to be conducted local council elections in the state.

The PDP also accused the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) of working with the APC to delay the polls.

It further accused the APC of deliberately frustrating the conduct of local council polls, which is g overdue since Oct. 2014.

Igbokwe, however, said that there was no connivance between the APC and LASIEC.

“We know of governors who didn’t conduct local government elections for eight years and nothing happened to them but we are not like that.

“The elections will be conducted at the due time when the APC-led government is ready.

“This shouldn’t be an issue, the council polls have been conducted before in the state,so these allegations are untrue,” Igbokwe said.
