Sen. Bala Mohammed, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has assured Nigerian workers resident in Abuja of government’s commitment to their welfare.
Speaking at the Workers’ Day celebration on Friday in Abuja, Mohammed said that the FCT Administration appreciated workers’ contribution to nation-building and was determined to make life more comfortable for them.
“The May Day is celebrated all over the world and this underscores the importance of the worker to nation-building.
“Here in FCT, we have initiated several programmes in housing, transportation and other welfare initiatives to make our worker population comfortable.”
The minister said that the FCTA was also determined to create an alternative route for workers who reside in satellite towns to make their movement to work less stressful.
“We are committed to ensuring that you get to work early and return early; this informed the development of alternative routes from densely populated satellite towns to the city.
“This informed the development of the Apo-Karshi road, which is almost ready for commissioning.’’
He advised workers to remain committed to nation-building and to reduce the frequency of industrial actions. (NAN)
