Outgoing governor of Benue State, Gariel Suswam has cautioned the leadership and members of the All Progressives Congress, APC to exercise decorum and desist from making inflammatory statements and threats capable of creating ill will and tension in the state.
The governor-elect, Dr. Samuel Ortom had at a press briefing in Makurdi last Tuesday warned Suswam to refrain from recruiting fresh workers, appointing new first class chiefs and conducting local government elections.
But the government in a press statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Justin Amase, said Gabriel Suswam remains the governor of the state and would not tolerate reckless pronouncements from any person or persons on matters of government and governance in Benue State.
“The governor wishes to advise that they should wait until May 29, 2015 when the APC government will be officially inaugurated before they can take charge of governance in the state.
“The APC and indeed the good people of Benue State are to note that Rt. Hon. Suswam remains the governor and would not tolerate reckless pronouncements by any person or persons on matters of government and governance in Benue State.
“The governor specifically takes exception to recent assertions credited to the deputy governor-elect in which he was said to have issued threatening proclamations to our government. His public statements on the issue of alleged recruitment into the civil service, appointment of traditional rulers and conduct of local government elections were unnecessary and a negation of the consultations being held with the governor-elect.
