Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, Police Command yesterday arrested nine fuel hawkers in Jikwoyi, a satellite town in the territory.
The Police said it will soon arraign the offenders to court, and also impounded a Toyota Carina 11 car used as a mobile fuel station.
Besides the arrest of the 9 fuel hawkers, the police, acting on tip off in Karmo Division, arrested one John Dickson, 36 years old on April 26, who tricked his girlfriend to sell their new born baby to a woman in Port Harcourt. And efforts are being intensified to arrest the buyer and other persons who conspired to commit the inhuman act.
The FCT Police also arrested 25 suspects in connection with different types of offences.
Parading the suspects to the media yesterday at the Command headquarters, Garki II, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Wilson Inalegwu said the exercise will be a continuous one. “Those arrested will soon be arraigned in court”, Inalegwu assured.
He continued: “The successes recorded so far within this record time can never be over-emphasized, hence the need to update the FCT residents on this feat, as well as our preparedness to make Abuja a crime free city.
“Sequel to a recent directive on re-enforcement of ban on the sale of petrol in jerricans in and around the FCT, the command has arrested a total of 9 persons who have not heeded the warning. Members of the public should please note that the dangers associated with the activities of these miscreants out-weigh its benefits. I want to reiterate that we are not relenting on our effort on the fight against crime. Fight is a continuous one. We will continue to re-strategize to make sure that we are ahead of the criminals,” hye said.
