Ortom expresses joy over dredging machine

Benue State Governor-elect, Dr Samuel Ortom, has expressed joy on the installation of a dredging machine at the bank of River Benue in Wadata, Makurdi, the state capital, saying the development conformed with his administration’s idea of developing the state.
The governor-elect went to see the dredging machine yesterday morning on the invitation of the Executive Director of Tojema Nigeria Limited, Mr Mark Hanmation, who owns the plant.
Dr Ortom said there were a thousand and one creative ideas out there to be converted into viable businesses and appealed to Benue indigenes to look around them and seize the numerous available opportunities.
He said his administration would create an enabling environment for the private sector to thrive as it was the only option available to propel the state forward as it was obtained globally.
The former Minister of Industry commended Mr Hanmation for the initiative and assured him of government’s support and partnership when he assumed office.
Dr Ortom disclosed that during his recent trip to China he had opened discussion with a Chinese firm for the establishment of a glass factory in Makurdi for the utilisation of the abundant sharp sand in the area which he described as among the best in the world.
He expressed hope that the project would materialize when he takes over.
On his part, Mr Hanmation explained that the machine was capable of pumping 1,000 trips of sand daily and providing employment to hundreds of people.
Workers at the site stated that Chief Dr Ortom was the third governor after Aminu Kontagora and George Akume to visit the area.
