Embattled speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Eugene Odo has said that he was not afraid neither was he running or hiding from anybody.
Odo who was quoted as saying that the governor was out to arrest him and that he had been in hiding told, Nigerian Pilot that he had even intended to hold sitting yesterday if police were removed from the assembly complex.
He was surprised that in spite of the Federal High Court order that the police barricading the assembly complex since May 4th, 2015, have refused to vacate so that they have to continue their normal sitting.
“We are law-abiding and would not want to go breaking locks in order to gain entrance into the chambers,” Odo said.
He explained that it was to avoid causing unnecessary trouble that he and the 14 other members loyal to him have not been having their normal legislative function.
“We intend to hold sitting tomorrow, if the police vacate the complex. We are law abiding and would not want to break in,” Odo disclosed.
It can be recalled that since crisis broke out between the executive and the legislature following attempts by the latter to serve impeachment notice on Gov. Chime and the purported suspension of the speaker by a splinter group loyal to the governor, Gov. Chime is believed to have ordered the police to seal the assembly complex.
The situation became more complex when the police failed to obey court order to vacate the House complex. Recently, the embattled speaker told some journalists that he was being invited to the Government House but that he was afraid of arrest and possible killing.
“I have refused to go there but I am not running from anybody. I am not into hiding,” Odo told Nigerian Pilot on phone.
