Rattled by damming allegations of treachery and incompetence levelled against the members of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Working Committee, NWC, by Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, the NWC yesterday commenced probe of his membership of the PDP.
PDP NWC drew the first blood when they attributed defeat of the PDP during the last election to hate campaign by PDP Presidential Campaign Organization.
Fani-Kayode, who was the campaign organization Spokesman responded on Tuesday by opening a can of worm on the underhand dealings of some NWC members, including secret deals by two members of the NWC with the APC.
PDP national chairman, Adamu Muazu, threw in the towel following publication of Fani-kayode’s interview in the media.
However, other members of the NWC met yesterday and deliberated on the Fani-Kayode onslaught and resolved to instruct the chairman of the Ondo State chapter of the party to “investigate the membership status of Chief Femi Fani-kayode.”
In the letter with reference number PDP/NS/CON/422-15 dated 20th May, 2015, which was signed by the national secretary, Prof Wale Oladipo, the NWC also directed that, “if he is a registered and financial member, a proper disciplinary action should be meted against him through the Ward for engaging in acts contrary to Section 58 (1)(b) of the party constitution.
“If he is not a member, you are to remind him as an usurper.”
The NWC followed up the letter by setting up a seven-man national disciplinary committee headed by Chief Michael Addul with members comprising of Chief Mike Ogiadohme, Senator Teslim Folarin, Dr. Akilu Indabawa, Dr. Hassan Kafayas, Barr Nonye Nwangwu while Barr. Tony Caesar Okeke serves as Secretary.
Reacting to NWC’s move to pull the rug off his feet, Fani-Kayode said they are panicking and maintained that they must do the honourable thing and toe the path of Muazu who yesterday caved in and heeded to the demand of PDP members that they step aside.
“First of all, let me say that I am delighted by the fact that the national chairman of the party has resigned from his position almost six or seven hours after I made the call for that and I wasn’t the only one that made the call for that, many of us have done so. It reflects the feeling of overwhelming members within the party, that he should go and we are glad he has gone. That is one down.
“Most of us are fed up with this and if their only reaction is that people should now come and ask whether or not I have a right to speak like that. I am a Nigerian; did they ask Governor Ayo Fayose to be disciplined for his comment; did they ask Governor Babangida Aliyu to be reprimanded for his comment; did they ask Governor Sule Lamido to be reprimanded for his comment?” he said
