The management of Bank of Industry, BOI, said that it had disbursed over N1.7 billion as loans to 200 business outfits in Anambra state as of April 30 this year.
The Managing Director of the bank, Mr. Rasheed Olaoluwa, stated this yesterday at the inauguration of its new office complex in Awka, Anambra state capital that the gesture was part of its initiatives to promote industrialisation in the state.
Olaoluwa said the amount was disbursed out of a total of N2.35 billion so far approved by the bank for the scheme.
He said that Anambra state was the first state to approach the bank for matching fund partnership as far back as 2006.
The MD further stated that the bank’s presence in Awka would further deepen its development financing in the state and help the government to achieve its industrialisation policy objectives.
According to him, “The BOI has embarked on some initiatives to provide financial and business support for entrepreneurs in the country, Anambra inclusive.
“The bank has concluded plans to extend financial support to some identified business clusters in the state which, we believe, will deepen industrialisation in Anambra,”
The state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, while declaring the facility open, lauded the BOI for fully domiciling its services in the state.
Obiano said industrialisation, which constitutes a major pillar of his administration, has become critical for economic prosperity in any state.
He said that his administration was doing a lot to lower the cost of doing business.
The governor also enjoined the business community and industrialists in the state to access the opportunities in BOI.
In his remarks, Mr. Afolami Adegoke, State Officer of the bank in Anambra, said the office would welcome all entrepreneurs and provide best business support within its mandate.
