LG polls: Police impose curfew in Rivers

Police in Rivers State, yesterday announced that it has ordered the restriction of movement of vehicles across the state between 10pm Friday to 6am on Saturday, except those on essential duties.
This is ahead of the local government election that is billed to take place in 21 out of the 23 local government areas of the state today.
State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dan Bature, made this known while commenting on Police preparedness in providing security during the election at the Command’s headquarters, Moscow Road, in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital.
Bature, who assured that the Police in collaboration with other security agencies was ready to provide adequate security for the electorate in the state, urged them to be peaceful during the exercise.
According to the police boss, the restriction was aimed at ensuring peace and serenity across the state before, during and after LGAs election and warned all those with intentions to cause violence to desist forthwith.
