Gunmen have attacked and kidnapped a Kogi State High Court Judge, Justice Samuel Obayomi of Ebogogo High Court in Adavi Local Government Area, killing his police orderly in the process.
The orderly, identified as Corporal Usman Musa, was shot dead on the spot by the hoodlums during the operation which took place between 8:40 and 8:45 on Monday morning.
The driver of the judge, Mr. Ajayi Kolawole, said the armed gunmen were not masked but wore dark glasses and numbering about three, stopped the car in front of Executive Guest Villa, Government Reserved Area, GRA in Okene and ordered the judge and his aides out of the car.
He added that they complied with their instruction but the hoodlums saw the police orderly as a threat, and opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.
According to him, the incident happened while Justice Obayomi was on his way to the office, yesterday morning.
Area Commander of the Okene Police Command, Mr. Kehinde Kolawole, said the police had arrested the driver of the judge to help the command in their investigations, stressing that the driver, being an eyewitness, was likely to give them adequate information.
Chief Judge of the State, Justice Nasir Ajanah, who later visited the family of the kidnapped judge, urged the wife to let him know as soon as the kidnappers contacted any member of the family.
Ajanah said efforts would be made to ensure the release of Justice Obayomi.
It would be recalled that the judge has been on the hospital bed after being involved in a accident three months ago and only resumed work on Monday last week.
