Clik here to view.President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday vowed that despite any challenge and financial implication, his administration has resolved that the excesses of members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, must end.
President Jonathan stated this in an interview with journalists on the sideline of the on-going 21st ordinary session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Africa Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
He said his administration would not fold its arms and watch members of the sect continue to kill innocent citizens at will.
“The excesses of Boko Haram must stop. That is the decision of this present government. It must stop, whatever it will cost the government, it must stop,” he stressed.
President Jonathan emphasized that the federal government has the capacity to confront the reign of terror being unleashed by the sect members and that their actions are already being confronted with his recent declaration of state of emergency in three northern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.
He explained that although terrorism is a global problem with the United States and United Kingdom and other countries having their shares, his administration is taking practical steps to contain it in terms of immediate, medium and long terms approaches.
He said under the short term, military intervention remains the option.
Jonathan observed that a lot of weapons found their ways into the country because of the Libya crisis, and noted that it is important for all the illegal weapons to be mopped up.
“For the short term, of course, there must be military intervention and we must beef up security.
