Youths in Nkpor, Idemmili local government area numbering about 50 were said to have set ablaze a restaurant belonging to a widow, Mrs. Nwakaego Okafor at Ogboza Ubaba village, Nkpor.
The youths allegedly chanted war songs, asking for the owner of the Restaurant to come and explain why she was allegedly opposing the leadership of Barr. Ralph Nnabuife (Asha) Acting President General of the community appointed by Anambra State Government.
A close source to the location of the Nwakego Restaurant said that when the owner of the Restaurant failed to show up, the youths got even more infuriated and set the Restaurant ablaze.
The action of the youths was allegedly due to a long standing dispute over the control of the Nkpor Town Union, and there had been attacks and counter-attacks between the supporters of Barr. Ralph Nwabuife and the opposition.
Addressing newsmen, Mrs. Okafor said she was able to identify about seven members of the gang from where she hid during the incident.
She expressed regret over what she described as an unprovoked attack on her Restaurant adding that she had lost more than N2 million as a result of the attack.
According to her, “the youths seized the opportunity of the attack to loot my property and collected some cash I reserved in the Restaurant”.
When contacted, the Divisional Police Office for Ogidi Police Station, Mr. Hassan Musa said he was yet to receive official report of the incident.
