Sudanese president arrives home after evading ICC arrest

Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir walked down a red carpet and was greeted by his ministers after he flew into the capital, Khartoum, from South Africa, the AFP news agency reports.

The AFP news agency reports that Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir waved his cane in the air as he stepped off his plane in the capital, Khartoum, and chanted: “God is greatest!”.

Mr Bashir flew in from South Africa after escaping arrest on genocide and war crimes charges.

South Africa’s government failed to enforce a court order preventing him from leaving until judges ruled on whether he should be transferred to the International Criminal Court to stand trial.
