There was confusion at the Nasarawa State polytechnic, Lafia, yesterday when some students of the institution believed to be cult members allegedly shot dead a Pre-National Diploma student of the institution, injuring several others.
The victim, Goodness Oguchukwu whose corpse was deposited at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, DASH, mortuary, was said to have been suspected by his killers to be a member of a rival cult group working against the other.
The incident which took place within the Polytechnic community left not less than five others injured as they were seen with machete wounds when our correspondent visited the casualty unit of the Specialist Hospital.
Reacting to the incident in an interview with newsmen in his office, Acting Rector of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Engr. Emmanuel Jatau, who described the incident as unfortunate, said that the management of the institution was working with the security agencies to ensure the arrest of the culprits.
He further revealed that the management would soon suspend about five students of the polytechnic suspected to be cult members to pave way for full investigation with a view to melting appropriate sanctions against them if finally found out to be cultists.
