The Power Training Institute of Nigeria, NAPTIN says it will partner with the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS to train personnel in the sector.
Director General of NAPTIN, Mr Reuben Okeke stated this in Abuja when delegates from NANS presented a certificate of good leadership in the industry to him in his office.
He said that plans were under way by NAPTIN to train 2,000 youths in various departments such as mechanical and electrical sections, and that majority of NANS members would benefit from the training.
According to him, 214 persons who were trained in various departments of engineering will be graduating from NAPTIN in October.
Okeke said that another 1,000 personnel, mainly people with low educational qualification such as cable jointers and technicians, would be trained this year by the institute.
He expressed his appreciation to the leadership of NANS for the consistent peaceful co-existence in the nation’s campuses.
According to him, NAPTIN is another educational institute which offers post graduate and applied training to graduates.
He said NAPTIN was already being repositioned to ensure that enough trained personnel are available for this task of managing the 40,000 mega watts of electricity by 2020 planned by the Federal Government.
He noted that in view of the recent privatisation of the power sector, investors from different parts of the world would soon begin to indicate interest in the sector.
Earlier, the president of NANS, Mr Yinka Gbadebo, said that the organisation was moved to give the award of good leadership to the NAPTIN Director-General because of his excellent performance.
He said that NANS also awarded the certificate to the NAPTIN boss because of his extra ordinary contributions to the power sector, especially in repositioning and re-training of students by the institute.
Gbadebo called on NAPTIN to organise workshops for students of Nigeria universities interested in the institute’s training programmes.
He called on NAPTIN to assist NANS members who might be interested in undergoing industrial training in the organisation, and to also provide a vehicle for association to ease its transportation difficulty.
