Onyali, Ogunkoya hail Okagbare, urge Team Nigeria for more

Former Queen of the tracks, Mary Onyali-Omagbemi, has joined the rest of Nigerians has joined in hailing new African tracks Queen, Blessing Okagbare for her fit at the on-going  IAAF Athletics Championship in Moscow, saying the Delta State-born athletics sensation would go places in her chosen career.

Team Nigeria Long Jumper, Blessing Okagbare won the silver with a 6.99m in the women’s long jump, thus becoming the toast of Nigerians home and abroad.

By her fit, Okagbare thus ended Nigeria’s drought at the IAAF World Athletics Championship which goes back to Seville ’99 in Spain where Gloria Alozie won silver in the 100m hurdles and Francis Obikwelu a bronze medal in the 200m.

Speaking against this background, Onyali, an Olympian, who walked the African tracks like a colossus during her days, said she sees a bundle of greatness in Okagbare, adding that she is not surprised at her current performance in Moscow.

‘’Before the championship proper I told whoever care to listen to me that Okabbare would be the athlete to beat and I am very delighted that she has put up a superlative performance.  I tipped her for glory and I am not surprised at her performance.’’

In the same vein, Quarter miler specialist and Olympian, Falilat Ogunkoya, has congratulated Okagbare in her performance, saying she has not only done Nigeria proud but the black race.

‘’I congratulate Okagbare for making Nigerians proud, infact I am so proud of her. She has wiped away our tears and restored confidence in our athletics,’’ Ogunkoya said.
