In an effort to give officers and men of the Nigeria Police a new lease of life after retirement, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar has disclosed that plans were underway to review police pension upward to enhance the standard of living of its personnel.

Abubakar stated this yesterday while declaring open a 3-day workshop on ‘Capacity and Human Resources Training for Police Pension Desk Officers’ in Abuja.

The IGP lamented that the pension of its retired personnel were nothing to write home about, stressing that his administration was determined to improve the welfare of its serving and retired personnel.

He expressed optimism that proper pension administration scheme was critical and would complementary its existing Police Community Bank Plc and the Police Cooperative Society.

The police boss hinted that they are in the process of implementing FOKAS Savings and Loans Mortgage bank to ease the burden of housing deficits by its officers and men.

“As one of the biggest organisations in Nigeria in terms of staff size, the management of police pension needs has become cumbersome leading to various inefficiencies our retirees are experiencing from existing service providers, Abubakar noted.

The IGP revealed that the Pension Fund Administration, PFA, would be designed and operated in line with the Pension Reform Act (2004) to address specific issues facing its pensioners’.
