Lagos State chapter of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, has condemned the recent deportation of some indigenes of Anambra State by Lagos State government, saying that such action contravened the Nigeria constitution, the Africa Charter on Human and People’s rights, and United Nation’s Universal Declaration on Human Rights.

The human rights group therefore called on the state governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) to tender an unreserved apology as well as compensate the affected persons

Condemning the action of the Lagos state government, the group’s state chairman, Comrade Isiak Olaitan Buna in a release stated that “without any reservation, the CDHR sees such action as highly misguided and violates the express provision of the Nigeria constitution.

“Ultimately, such action constitutes an infringement on certain fundamental human rights of those involved.

“It is important to inform the governor that by this action, he had laid a bad precedence that no state in the country should be encouraged to follow, otherwise, such action could amount to mere precipitation of another civil war in the country which must be prevented, especially at this delicate period.

“As an organisation, CDHR consists of all tribes; we wish to say categorically that such notion is wrong. Fashola’s action is merely a class war against the ordinary people within the society and does not represent the interest of average Yoruba people.”

Comrade Buna however appealed to the affected persons, as well as corrected the notion as expressed by some leadership of Igbo community in the country that Yoruba people have hatred for their people.

The group stated that the Lagos State government owns the entire citizens of the country a public apology, as well as providing compensation to the affected persons.
