– Northern Governors
Obviously rattled by reports that the five rebellious Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governors from the north have apologised to the national chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur over their intransigence against the leadership of the party, one of the governor, Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto state has denied apologizing to Tukur.
Three of the five governors that have been at loggerhead with PDP leader, Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Musa Kwankwaso (Kano) and Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto) had last Thursday paid a visit to the private residence of the PDP chairman in Abuja during which they had a closed-door meeting for several hours
After the closed door meeting media aide to Tukur, Prince Oliver Okpala, claimed in a press statement that the three governors apologised to him after which he forgave them.
According to the statement, “Three out of five northern governors of the PDP, namely Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); and Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), had a closed-door meeting with the National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, that lasted for several hours and the governors apologised on behalf of the other governors notably, those of Adamawa and Niger states.”
Three northern governors that visited the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bamanga Tukur, at his Abuja home on Thursday did not apologise to him over their stance on issues affecting the party, a media aide to one of the governors has said.
Reacting to the reported apology tendered to Tukur, the media aide to Governor Wamakko, Sani Umar, denied that the governors apologised to Tukur over their stance on the leadership of the party.
Umar explained that the governors only apologised to the PDP national chairman over the absence of the Governor of Niger state, Babangida Aliyu and and his Adamawa state counterpart, Murtala Nyako from the meeting.
Sunday Pilot recalls that the five governors have been travelling round the country to meet sole elders and former leaders but they have not come out to openly declare what the agenda for the visits were.
However, it is believed that the visits are not unconnected to the politics of 2015 in addition to their demand for the resignation or sack of the PDP national chairman.
