Authorities of the Nigeria Police, Ondo State police command, has urged and directed the rank and file of the state command to disregard the rumour going rounds that the monthly deduction from their salaries through the National Housing Funds, NHF, were for the rank and file alone, saying the deduction is across board.
The command in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Wole Ogodo, which was made available to newsmen in Akure, said the police contribution through the NHF is for all ranks in the force starting from the Inspector General of Police to the least constable, adding that the police is presently selling shares to its members in order to meet up with money for capitalisation base.
Ogodo hinted that the police authority needs N2.5billion to establish a mortgage bank in a state while N5 billion is needed to establish the nation branch of the bank, adding that as soon as police sell all its shares, branches would be opened for all police formation across the nation.
Ogodo explained that the sum of N11,000 is being deducted for two months from salaries of every policeman irrespective of the rank and that N8 billion has so far being contributed and is presently lodged at the Federal Mortgage Bank.
He said the N8billion could not be easily accessed because the police authorities have not been able to float its own mortgage bank.
According to him, the Nigeria Police has just acquired a new Mortgage Bank called FOKAS Saving and Loans Limited [Mortgage Bankers] which was an existing primary mortgage institution with equity share of two hundred and seventy million shares.
The Police PPRO disclosed that with the recent acquisition of the FOKAS Mortgage Bank, every policeman would automatically qualify to access a Housing loan from the bank with ease.
He enjoined rank and file of the force to disregard the misinformation being peddled round by some mischievous and disgruntled elements, adding that very soon every state police formation would have a branch of the FOKAS mortgage bank which will enable them to easily get loan without any difficulty.
