PDP governors who were reported to have registered a political party by the name Voice of the People, VOP have denied that they tried to break away from the PDP to register their own party.

Our source yesterday said that even

the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC confirmed that there is no application before it to register VOP.

However, the PDP has summoned the five governors to explain their role in the rumour making the rounds.

The governors are: Sule Lamido of Jigawa State; Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State; Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State; Babangida Aliyu of Niger State; Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State and the embattled Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State.

The five governors have been embroiled in months of wrangling with the leadership of the PDP and the Presidency.

The rumour is soaring on the wings of the conflict in the PDP, which is facing what appears to be its most turbulent period since 1999.

If the rumours are anything to go by, the PDP will be left with 18 governors if the governors leave, and their numerical value of their respective states will have a telling effect on PDP’s fortune to secure a new term as the ruling party in 2015
