Anambra Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Stakeholders’ Forum for Good Governance and Justice has called on the founding fathers of the party to urgently intervene in the current crisis in Anambra state chapter of the party so as to avoid further escalation.
In a statement signed by the chairman of the group, Nze Basil Ezeorjiewuru and made available to Nigerian Pilot yesterday, the group also called on PDP elders and stakeholders in the state to speak up and condemn in clear terms the assault on the rule of law and due process in the state.
“We also call on the founding fathers of PDP to prevail on all stakeholders in PDP to stand up, defend the party and stop it from sliding into oblivion in Anambra State; a state that should be a pace setter in political development and advancement in Nigeria,” it stated.
It also stated that the PDP under the leadership of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur had previously performed well until the run-up to primary elections, adding that the national chairman of the party, who had earlier affirmed Ejike Oguebego as Anambra PDP chairman, turned to disregard the court orders and INEC’s directive in the state.
“We wonder what Bamaga Tukur’s interest is in the crisis in Anambra State, and when it was obvious that it is within his jurisdiction to write INEC if he has any reason to put a-stop to Ejike Oguebego’s Chairmanship of PDP, he disobeys the court order,” it stated.
The statement further stressed that the latest suspension of Senator Andy Uba and four other stalwarts of the PDP was a slap on them, saying that the election of Senator Uba was in line with the rule of law and due process.
“The most worrisome aspect of the sad turn of event in Wadata Plaza, headquarters of PDP, is the cultures of double speak of the National Working Committee, NWC, members.
“The question here is, has PDP introduced selective obedience to rule of law in running its affairs? Another instance is the summoning of Senator Andy Uba and other to appear before its leadership when they are aware of pendency of the matter in question in court” it stressed.
The group however vowed to resist any attempt to force them to believe that Anambra PDP is on the altar of sacrifice to appease some external interest groups.
