Senate President David Mark has pleaded with Nigerians who are beating drums of war to stop the action as Nigeria cannot afford another civil war.

Mark, who spoke in Minna, Niger State, on Wednesday when he led members of Alumni Association of Regular Course 3 of the Nigerian Defence Academy of 1967 to pay a courtesy visit on the Niger State governor, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu at Government House, Minna said, ‘‘The strength of Nigeria is in our unity not in our division; so let us all work for the unity of this country.”

Senator Mark appreciated the “tremendous work” the Niger State governor is doing in Niger State but advised the governor “to do more for the people who are still yearning for delivery of dividends of democracy.”

In his remarks, Governor Aliyu had described as cosmetic the on-going review of the 1999 constitution and suggested that the entire exercise should be stopped and replaced with a wholesome review of the nation’s laws.

Aliyu declared that ‘‘after 100 years of Nigeria we should not be talking as if nothing has happened; we need to look at it (constitution) more fundamentally.”

Governor Aliyu praised the association for “stopping Nigeria from disintegration” while they were in the army and after their service, stressing that “this is one group that has saved Nigeria particularly in its excellent civil military relationship.”
