Super Eagles head Coach, Stephen Keshi has said that although he has confidence in the ability of the senior national team as it stands now, there are still changes to be made before the world cup in order to have a strong representation at the 2014 FIFA world cup in Brazil next year.
Keshi said in Calabar that the Super Eagle beat Malawi 2-0 in the last group qualifier match played at the U. J. Esuene Stadium that for the team is partially ready.
‘’You see, no matter how long you have a team, there is still one or two players you might see that you want to bring into the team.’’
Keshi said the technical crew will continue to build the team until it reached the desired strength for the World Cup.
‘’There is no way you have outright eleven players and keep them for two years without changing the players. So, if I have one or two players coming in and they are better than the ones I have, I would like to make a change. it is part of building too because they will have to learn our own pattern of play. I am confident of the present Super Eagles. With what I have here today, I am confident of playing any team in Africa when the draws are made for the run-off.’’
Keshi hinted that has is ready to drop any player for another better than him.
‘’If I have a good goal keeper better that Vincent Enyeama, I will have to change him. I will put Enyeama on the bench and play the best. It all about this country, it has nothing to do with individual or the person. Before Sunday Oliseh was brought into the midfield, we had the late Thompson Oliha for four years and he was the general in the midfield. Oliseh came in after two games and Westerhof said, yes, that is my player and that was it. It is not about sentiment, we need players that will give me result.’’
The former Super Eagles Captain said if it is possible he needs three players in each position and if for instance, in the goal keeping, Enyeama says I have headache, we will keep him one side and play another person. We need that competition in the team and we have young and talented players out there home and abroad and we want to bring them in. so there is no automatic shirt for any player. Every player must have to be on their feet to be part of the Brazil 2014 train.’’
