Over 300 houses have been destroyed by flood after several hours of heavy downpour in five local government area of Plateau State
A source who spoke to our reporter from Kanam local government area of the state further said that many persons are still missing and many livestock and farmlands have been washed away by the flood.
According to the source, the people of the affected communities are still counting their losses.
The rains, which started in the afternoon, lasted for close to four hours, resulting to the flood from the rains.
Confirming the incident, the executive secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Alhaji Alhasan Barde, who spoke to our correspondent on phone, confirmed the ugly development but said he was yet to receive accurate figures of the houses destroyed and those killed by the flood.
According to him, there was flooding in Jos North, Barkin Ladi, Kanam and Shendam local government area of the state and homes were destroyed.
In his words, “As I speak with you I am doing on the spot assessment of the affected areas and would give you the exact figures after the assessment”.
He advised residence of the state not to build their homes around waterways.
