Kogi State police command yesterday explained that the brother of Prince Abubakar Audu, who was kidnapped few weeks ago, has regained freedom from his captives adding that they are close to apprehending the kidnappers.
Briefing journalists in Lokoja, the state acting police commissioner, DCP Austin Evbakhavbokun said one Mr Abdullai Mohammed, whose account was used by the kidnappers has been arrested and is being interrogated.
Explaining further, the police boss added that the sum N50, 000 believed to be part of the ransom, was paid into the suspect’s (Mohammed) account at the United Bank of Africa, UBA branch in Aloma in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
He said the former governor’s brother, Abdullahi Audu has been taken to the hospital for treatment, stressing that the police will not rest on their oars until the culprits are brought to book.
However, the suspect, Mohammed whose account was allegedly used by the kidnappers, claimed to be ignorant of the offence, saying he did not know anything about the kidnapping.
Mohammed, who is a teacher by profession, claimed to know the victim very well. “We grew up together in Aloma. We used to drink together, but honestly, I have nothing to do with his kidnapping. I don’t know the people behind it at all,” he said.
