President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday met with former military president, Ibrahim Babangida and former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ahmadu Ali in what is believed to be a step to finding lasting solutions on the crisis rocking the party.
Although arrangements for the meeting between the trio was traded in secrecy, the former military ruler was cited within the presidential villa at about 1:25pm on his way to the meeting.
The meeting between President Jonathan, Babangida and Ahmadu Ali was a prelude to an expanded meeting between governors of the PDP, the president and key leaders of the party later yesterday night.
Journalists were barred from covering the meeting which presidency sources say lasted for an hour.
Since the emergence of a factional group of the PDP during the last special national convention, President Jonathan has held two separate meetings between aggrieved members of the party and those loyal to the Bamanga Turku leadership.
Before the meeting between President Jonathan, Obasanjo and Ahmadu Ali, Governors Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, Emmanual Uduagan of Delta State and Gabriel Suswan of Benue State were cited at different times entering the villa for separate meeting with the president.
Reports indicate that the president and the PDP governors will discuss in detail the report of the former President Olusegun Obasanjo reconciliation committee whose recommendations have been causing disagreements among party stakeholders.
