Commander of the Presidential Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Emmanuel Atewe yesterday attributed the improved security situation in the nation’s capital, Abuja to the synergy between his Command and other security agencies.
General Atewe stated this while speaking to State House correspondents shortly after decorating four newly promoted serving officers of the Guards Brigade with the ranks of Lieutenant Colonel.
The Presidential Guards Brigade is a special unit of the military charged with the responsibility of providing adequate security for the President, the seat of government and the capital city.
He said “We have done our utmost best to carry out our assignments as dictated by the law and of course with the help of other sister agencies”.
According to him, the Guards Brigade cannot carry out the security situation in Abuja alone and environs but bas been doing so with the assistance of other security agencies, civilians and “our friends.”
“We find out that we have been able to do the little we have contributed to the security in Abuja environment due to the synergy”, he said.
General Atewe said that the creation of the 176 Special Guards Battalion by President Goodluck Jonathan in October 2012 had contributed immensely to the improved security situation in FCT.
He noted that the population explosion in the territory had made it mandatory for all security services to engage more men.
“As more people are moving to Abuja, all the security services require additional men to meet up with the current security challenges.
“The creation of 176 Special Guards Battalion contributed to the improved security of Abuja,’’ he said.
Atewe commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika for improved welfare of men and officers of the Army.
“You will also see that he is all over the places going from one operational area to the other encouraging the men and women who are fighting for the peace of this country.
“At all levels the moral of men is being enhanced by ensuring that all they required are provided in terms of their personal welfare, training and others,’’ he said.
Atewe while decorating the officers charged them to see their elevation as an additional responsibility and to always keep above board.
