Bayelsa State government has commended the masses, especially people of the Eastern Senatorial District for their large turn-out and warm reception during the first phase of the Governor’s “Thank You” tour to local government areas in the state.
The state commissioner of Information and Orientation, Deacon Markson Fefegha, made the commendation at a joint post state executive council press briefing in his office in Yenagoa.
Deacon Fefegha said among other issues, the council approved
the release of N3billion naira for the speedy completion of the Ogbia-Nembe road, in response to the yearning of the people during the recent “Thank You” tour to the area.
He explained that the intervention of the state government was as a result of the commercial value of the area and also to reduce the scourge of sea piracy in the area.
The Information Commissioner said government is putting in place control measures targeted at preventing indiscriminate building of structures along the new Ogbia – Nembe road.
Also speaking, the commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Lawrence Ewrujakpor, said the decision to approve an intervention fund for the Ogbia-Nembe road was to ensure the completion of the project before the 2014 deadline.
Expressing disappointment that the Ogbia-Nembe road has undergone so much variation, Mr. Ewrujakpor said in few weeks, government will also take decision on the award of the Otuasega-Ogbia bridge project.
He called on private developers in the state to obtain their building permits before erecting structures along roads in and around the state capital.
The works and infrastructure commissioner also disclosed that about N1.2billion compensation will be paid in few weeks to property owners at Etegwe, to facilitate the commencement of work on the Etegwe fly-over project.
Special Adviser to the governor on Political Matters, Mr. Fred Agbedi, who also spoke at the briefing, said the governor’s “Thank You” tour will continue on the 9th of December with a visit to Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, while Yenagoa and Kolokuma/Opokuma local government areas will take their turn on 10th and 11th December respectively.
12th December will be the turn for Sagbama Local Government Area.
Chief Agbedi said the break in the tour was as a result of the president’s visit to the state this weekend and to allow the governor attend to other pressing engagements next week.
He commended the media for giving the tour the widest publicity and called on people from the remaining local government areas to come out and give the governor a rousing welcome.
